By accident, I’ve seen a couple of recent Formula 1 Grand Prix on the TV. This isn’t a race – it’s a procession. The driver who starts in ‘pole’ position wins, the 2nd driver comes second and so on. I’ve seen more overtaking on a deserted stretch of the M1 at 03.00 on a Sunday morning than I have in a whole Formula 1 “race”. This isn’t a sport – it’s just a total and utter waste of time.
However, Bernie Ecclestone makes his billions because worthless countries which have never contributed anything, like Dubai, Turkey, Malaysia etc, think that hosting a Grand Prix makes them look modern and progressive. I’s a bit like a fat, shaven-headed, tattooed,pig-ignorant lump of lard thinking that buying a Ryan Giggs Manchester United T-shirt makes him look sporty. It doesn’t work. But as long as there are inadequate countries desperate to buff up their image, Bernie Ecclestone will continue to rake in the billions from his Grand Prix bore.
